The time for trick or treat is right around the corner! In our previous trick or treat blog, we talked about the top safety tips that every family needs to know about to make the most out of the best holiday of the year.
Today, we’re talking about another treat or treat topic, thanks to our friend Rebecca over the Simple as That blog: how to take the best Halloween costume pictures ever! If you’re the proud parent of a pretty princess or a superhero-in-training, you want to be able to capture those memories in a special way that lasts forever.
All of Rebecca’s costume photos are totally amazing (and we’ll be sharing some of her work right here!), but you don’t need to be a pro photographer like her to get great pictures of your own, either. She’s come up with 7 easy photo-taking tips that anybody can use to make snapping shots a snap come October 31. These tricks are guaranteed to turn your pics into real treats!
Here are some of our favorites from her post:
Embellish with overlays and effects. Subtle filters or objects added into photos can make a huge difference – they can also help hide shortfalls of your camera’s quality. (We rock the smartphone camera, ourselves.) Here, she added a few snowflakes to her daughter’s Elsa costume:
Rebecca also has tons of free retro Halloween photo overlays available her blog that add a ton of typographic flair to any photo. Try them out!
Don’t wait too long. This one’s more about the planning than the photo-taking itself. On the actual day of your community’s trick or treat, the kids are going to want to get going, so get photos out of the way a day or two early. Also, you’ll have plenty of time to get the perfect shots this way.
Mix things up. Don’t limit yourself to indoor photos against a plain white wall. (Trust us, we have plenty of those on our website.) Instead, let your child really get into character and strike some poses. Try taking the pictures from different angles, too, like Rebecca did with her ninja grandmaster here:
Here’s one last shot of all of Rebecca’s kids dressed up in their new favorite outfits:
