If your little girl’s imagination is inspired by enchanting fairies and woodland sprites, then there’s no better way to channel her creativity than with a fun fairy dress-up day! With the power afforded by a pair of fluttering fairy wings and sparkly skirt, any backyard can become a magical forest dwelling for pixies and fairies of all sorts.
In our recent post all about fairy dress-up ideas, this rainbow fairy costume was one of the many magical outfits that we showcased. Today, we’re showing you how to make that look even more majestic with an amazing fairy face paint tutorial. Created by Rochelle Midro of Aloha Glam Art, and shown off by her lovely model, Lyric, this design is sure to bring out the inner fairy in any little girl.
Adorable! You can also use the same techniques shown in the video with any colors of face paint to create the perfect look for any fairy costume. Use the photo slideshow below to click through Rochelle’s tutorial, step by step:
Begin to create the butterfly wings with a rainbow or split cake of face paint and a 1-inch flat brush.
By holding the brush at an angle, and by using just the tip, you can still paint with just one color.
Apply some sparkly gold glitter around the eyelids and eyebrow area.
Use your favorite shades of blue and purple eyeshadow to create a gradient of color.
Add to the outlines of the butterfly wings with white face paint and a small round brush.
Use different types of lines and swirling strokes to finish the outlines of the wing shapes.
With a medium flat or round brush, add bright pink accents to the eyelid and cheek areas.
Darken the inside corners of the eyes with some purple face paint…
…and draw the butterfly’s body along the nose with the same color.
Use dots of white paint to create highlights all around the butterfly design.
Shades of pinks and purples give the lips the perfect cotton candy-kissed look.
Add a few final accents with dark purple face paint.
The butterfly fairy face paint look is complete!
