Plastic underneath, paper on top. The only downside is that it can rip easily, but that should not be an issue since it is meant to be temporary. It's a deep black color, not faded-looking. It fits on my table that seats ten, so it's pretty big! Works great with many themes, so don't be afraid to use black. Shipping was perfectly-timed--it arrived quickly and in perfect condition!
